Royal Ascot is back for 2022 and the guests look happier than ever to be returning to the famed equestrian event – the first one with a full attendance since 2019.
Every June, celebrities and members of the royal family are spotted enjoying the proceedings in the sunshine. It’s a well-known fact that Her Majesty herself is a big fan of the races, and has won around £7 million from horse racing over the past three decades (look back at the Queen enjoying the Royal Ascot over the years, here).
Though the Queen herself wasn’t presented on the opening day at Ascot this year, she released a statement saying how “delighted” she was to welcome the crowds back. “I have been most grateful for the continued kindness shown to me by the racing community,” she said. “I hope you all have an enjoyable and memorable time, and I wish connections of the horses running this week the very best of luck.”
Of course, the races have always acted as a showcase for not only the horses and jockeys but for guests to wear their favorite frocks and finery. And, while the trends may change with every passing year, the rules remain the same in the royal enclosure: hems must be knee-length or longer, shoulders should be sufficiently covered and above all, do not, under any circumstances, arrive without a hat.
